Quiet Quitting is an altogether new movement by burn-out employees trending on social media. Many people have resorted to Tiktok and Instagram to express their dissatisfaction with the current work environment and policies.
It is an accomplished fact that the pandemic has brought a paradigm shift in our thinking regarding work. Before Covid 19 outbreak the work environment used to be different. The central focus of the employers and employees used to be on output.
However, during the pandemic, the employees realised that they can get output like an office from home in a less challenging environment. With Covid 19 in control, the companies want the employees to work with pre-pandemic conditions.
On the other side, employees wish to have a comfortable environment at work.
Moreover, these days employees have more authority than past, and they are utilizing it effectively. They are leaving no stone unturned to make their boss realize their significance.
Most employees have created a boundary and are not going above and beyond that. So that means they do not wish to go beyond the conventional domain to solve the conflicts at their workplace adroitly.
The recent Gallup survey has concluded that employee engagement is at a decadal low at 34%. Moreover, the ratio of actively disengaged employees is surging. This means many people go to work but do not put earnest efforts to perform their tasks skillfully.
In the long run, this could nosedive the productivity and be detrimental to the setup.
Furthermore, people are leaving no stone unturned to strike the right work-life balance due to hectic work schedules. During covid time, they realised this thing that health is wealth.
By working for longer hours without many breaks they are jeopardizing their future. That is why many individuals have started to pay enough attention to physical workouts and mental well-being.
In their opinion money earned at the expense of health is not worthwhile. Hence, spending time on their physical and mental fitness is of utmost importance.
As, the pandemic has hinted at a slower life for people involving less commuting, and they wish to replicate the same in their lives. They want to work in a less stressful environment.
Running after targets and not spending enough time with family worry them now. And, they have realized the significance of a simple life which encourages them to carve a niche to lead their lives towards an impressive growth trajectory.
Employees have started believing that working to live is a worthwhile proposition than living to work. For them, work is a means to earn sufficient funds for their family to live a comfortable life.
And working like a ninja for hours and hours does not motivate them anymore.
To handle this situation adroitly, the companies must revamp their systems to adjust to this new movement.
Firstly for the profiles where supervision is not essential, the employers must provide the work-from-home option to effectively utilize the time lost in commuting.
Moreover, it will save employees money too, as they need not squander money on travelling to the workplace.
Apart from this, the companies must realize that the era of long working hours is over. In the contemporary epoch, organisations should focus on productivity and enhance that they must focus on quality work than quantity.
Employees should work for fixed hours with determination, dedication and discipline. This prudent approach would bridge the gap betwixt employers and the workforce.
Lastly, the companies should come up with some ideas to enhance employee loyalty. Because an organisation thrives primarily on its workforce to climb the ladder to success.
